Who Is Jonathan Volks?
For all you stalkers out there I'll save you the trouble of doing what your good at and just lay it all for ya. I grew up in the great city of Glens Falls, NY. Now most of you have no idea where this city unless you live within about 50 miles from it. Its located an hour North of Albany, NY just at the southern tip of the Adirondack State Park which for myself makes it a perfect spot for me. I am close enough to the Adirondacks where its an easy drive to go hiking and I'm close enough Saratoga and Albany to hit up the night life.
My computer obsession started when I was at Glens Falls High School. I had always been into video games (original Nintendo, Super Nintendo, N64) but while in high school a friend of mine got me into the ins and outs of computers. Understanding how they work and their future potential. While I attended high school I took keyboarding, data entry, webpage design and Cisco Networking courses.
To further my education I went to SUNY New Paltz and majored in computer science. While there I learned a ton about different programming techniques in C++ and Java. Although I learned a lot about programming, I never really thought I learned what I needed to be useful in the real world. On the side I did my own websites and found it a bit more satisfying than programming computer applications. The summer after I graduated I was still working at Toys R Us (great place to work by the way) and I began teaching myself server side scripting languages, specifically PHP.
The Fall after I graduated I was hired an a website programmer and eventually video editor at Niche Concepts, LLC. Here I worked on their website, JonesCAM.tv by modifying the OsCommerce shopping cart to fit their needs. While there I also developed actiondvr.com and jonescamnewyork.com. I did many other functions while I was there but website programming and the video editing were the ones I enjoyed the most.
Currently I am working at Mannix Marketing where I am a Web Applicatons Developer. I mostly work on different websites either doing database work or some kind of scripting. I also maintain the servers and am in the process of learning ColdFusion which so far I have found to be a great programming language.
